INTERVIEW

We asked Sara : Introduce yourself, talk about anything you want, your age, your country, how did your passion for travel begin…?

She said : My name is Sara, I am from Spain and originally from China. I did my first cycling trip in October 2020. It was during the pandemic and we could not leave our countries. So I decided to “try” other ways of traveling instead. At home (Spain), and focused on the journey rather than on the destination. I loved this experience as I felt unprecedented freedom, and I could taste the hospitality of the people on the very first day: in the middle of the day I was offered a warm coffee and refuge when it started to rain, and at the end of that day, far from my original plan, I was invited to stay at a villager’s home, as the only auberge was closed.

I probably wouldn’t be making Journey From the Road now, if I didn’t take that first cycling trip.

Question : How many countries have you traveled during your trip and how many countries have you visited ?

She said : As of the 20th of July, I cycled through Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and I’m now in Serbia. So I’m in my 6th country right now! It’s been amazing !

Question: What are the most important difficulties you have encountered ?

She said: Wild camping makes me a bit nervous. I believe and I saw that people are really good, but I have to take care of myself and take precautions. It hasn’t been much of a problem because as the journey progressed, I lost the fear of asking people if I could stay in their garden. I would recommend that to fellow cyclists, the experience it’s great and there are such hospitable people out there!

Question: Is traveling for women alone dangerous ?

She said: In the countries I have traveled to, I haven’t encountered any problems related to traveling alone as a woman. Moreover, I think being a woman has its advantages since families might not see you as a threat, and you might be invited to their homes more easily !

Question: What did traveling to you do What is Sarah’s dream and goals ?

She said: This is a life experience, and you get to learn from the people, from the culture, firsthand. A lot of times we are tricked by traditional media or form our own prejudices because of that. This is a very good way to break those prejudices and get to know part of the reality.

I want to continue Journey From the Road project for a long time. To keep sharing stories of what I’m living and I’m seeing through videos, text and pictures. So I also have to make it financially sustainable. I hope my followers can find my content valuable, their feedback is very valuable to me!

I’m still new in all this and learning and improving little by little every time! 🙂

Question: What is your message of motivation for those who want to travel on a bicycle ?

She said: The most difficult thing might be to take that first step. Take it! You can start with a small cycling trip to your country. You will learn a lot of things on the road, you don’t have to master everything before starting.
This way of traveling opens the doors to people. Be flexible, don’t have everything attached, and don’t rush toward your next destination. The journey and the people along the way are what will make your trip unforgettable!
